Brown Sugar Pork Chops

When I was little and asked my parents what was for dinner, I remember always feeling a little disappointed when they answered "pork chops."  They just weren't exciting and usually didn't taste like anything.  Since then, I've been looking for ways to add a little pizzazz to pork chops.  It's a well-known fact that I have a higher tolerance for sugar than most people, so therein lied my answer.  This is honestly one of my all-time favorite dinner recipes, and it's easy and fast. Although it seems like a lot of sugar at first, it's really the perfect amount of sweetness...literally just a spoonful of Zucker for each chop.

INGREDIENTS:
4 relatively thin, bone-in pork chops (boneless will work too if that's all you have)
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
3/4 teaspoon paprika
olive oil to coat the pan

DIRECTIONS:
1. In a small bowl, mix all the dry ingredients together with a fork.
2. Using your hands, coat both sides of each pork chop with the mixture. Use it all!

3. Heat just enough olive oil to cover the bottom of your frying pan over medium heat. Don't use more than a couple tablespoons.
4. When it's hot, place the chops in the pan and fry for about 5 minutes per side.  The sugar will start to bubble and turn to caramel, but be very careful not to let it burn.

They're done when they look like this:
I served these with steamed green beans and scalloped potatoes (recipe to come.)
Seriously, I can't recommend these enough. If you try one recipe from my blog, let it be this one!  There are really no words fit to describe their sweet deliciousness.  Tomorrow, I'll post the recipe for the potatoes. Then on Friday, it's back to the desserts!
